Our 5 year Plan

NNRG is Leading Conservation Forestry Incentives: The Northwest Natural Resource Group is leading the effort in the Pacific Northwest to develop conservation forestry incentives and infrastructure, markets for ecosystems services such as carbon sequestration and water quality trading, and solutions for the issues facing small and family forests.  Already the leader in sustainable forestry certification and market development in the Northwest, NNRG is actively positioning itself to become the foremost proactive ecosystem services development organization in the Northwest.

Business Plan Informs Future Path: In 2006 NNRG hired ShoreBank Enterprise Cascadia to help develop a strategic plan which set forth our primary objectives over the next five years:

  • Achieve broader regional impacts through growth and scale (representing 100,000 acres and 350 small forest landowners in five years)
  • Achieve long-term financial stability and solvency through a diverse fee for service structure, allowing NNRG to continue to be a reliable service for small forest landowners
  • Expand the constituency for sustainable forestry through collaborative approaches with other NGO’s focused on; water quality and quantity, containing urban sprawl through sustainable rural economics, and old and new forest landowners interested in capitalizing on the environmental value ($) in their forests.
  • Demonstrate innovations at a watershed scale that offer a new “value proposition”, competitive with development, including ecosystem service markets and other income opportunities for small forest landowners
  • Increase our regional and national recognition, focusing on the importance of working with small forest landowners
  • Demonstrate success through baseline metrics for measuring tangible impacts on the natural environment
