A workshop sponsored by the WA NatureMapping Program.
NatureMapping is a tool for landowners, students and the general public to help determine a healthy future for fish and wildlife through the use of sound scientific techniques. By combining basic field observations of wildlife species and their habitats with a mapping and database program, NatureMapping offers an easy to use system for inventorying and monitoring wildlife and ecosystem health.
This workshop is for anyone interested in using the NatureMapping process to keep track of wildlife in their backyard, local parks, forests, or any other natural area. The workshop will focus on forested environments and hands-on training will be provided in the forests at Northwest Trek.
Classroom and field work during the workshop will include:
- Using maps
- Wildlife identification techniques
- Recognizing habitat types and habitat coding
- Tracking
- Field data collection techniques
- Using field data collection sheets
- Basic use of GPS handheld and Nature Tracker software
