Forest owners in the McKenna & Nisqually Reserve have a wide range of management options for their forests, including income generation, enhancing wildlife habitat and improving the health, vigor and aesthetics of their forests. However, many forest owners don’t know how to manage their forests to meet their objectives or what resources and assistance are available to help them.
This evening presentation will introduce the most common forest management options and help landowners decide when and how to implement them. Topics will include:

  • When to thin your forest
  • Pre-commercial vs. commercial thinning
  • Ecological thinning options
  • Improving long-term timber value
  • How to manage from plantation to a natural forest
  • Common forest health issues
  • Simple wildlife habitat enhancement projects
  • To prune or not to prune
  • Reducing management costs
  • Federal conservation funding opportunities
  • And more…

Come meet your neighbors and join the discussion of how for-est owners in the McKenna & Nisqually Reserve can work to-gether to improve the health, productivity and ecological qual-ity of your forests!

Location:

Ohop Grange
