Forests in the Pacific Northwest can play an important role in sequestering and storing atmospheric carbon dioxide. Through careful management and monitoring, forest owners and managers can position themselves to participate in emerging carbon offset markets and develop an additional income stream by selling the “ecosystem services” their forests provide.
The Northwest Natural Resource Group’s new carbon offset program, NW Neutral®, assists small woodland owners with inventorying and monitoring carbon pools in their forests and connecting them with high value markets. This full-day training seminar, exclusively for members of Northwest Certified Forestry*, will introduce landowners to the carbon marketplace, how NW Neutral® accounts for forest-based carbon offsets, and the higher values offered by selling carbon offsets through NW Neutral®.
Topics will include:
- Carbon markets 101
- Understanding baseline, additionality, permanence and other carbon offset criteria
- Carbon inventory data collection requirements
- Carbon contracts and other legal issues
- Carbon value case studies under NW Neutral®
- And more…
To register, please mail the registration form and $25 per person to NNRG, PO Box 1067, Port Townsend, WA 98368.
Directions and workshop details will be sent to all registrants.
*This workshop is limited to members of Northwest Certified Forestry. If you are interested in joining the Northwest’s premier conservation-based forestry organization and learning about the opportunities that carbon offset markets may hold for your forest, you can learn more about membership online at: http://www.nnrg.org/nw-certified-forestry/Membership.
