A seminar on conservation and financial assistance programs for small woodland owners.

Most small woodland owners are interested in protecting their forest land for future generations. However, rural landowners are facing a perfect storm of rising real estate values and property taxes combined with declining timber prices. These factors are making it increasingly difficult for landowners to afford to maintain undeveloped land.

Fortunately many opportunities exist for landowners to generate revenue from the conservation values of their land while decreasing management costs and tax burdens. The purpose of this workshop is to explore voluntary options that small woodland owners can use to enhance the value of their forestland while generating residual income and reducing landowner tax liability.

Topics will include

  • Selling Carbon Credits
  • Conservation Easements
  • Open space and current use taxation
  • State and federal conservation and financial assistance programs
  • Forest certification
