NNRG member Walker Creek Eco-Forestry, will be holding a weeklong, hands-on course on the fundamentals of eco-forestry on 360 acres outside of Coquille, OR.  This intensive course will focus on improving forest ecological health through thinning, pruning and selective harvesting and will be both lecture and field based.  Dates are Feb 5th-12th.  NCF’s Jake Robinson will be holding a workshop on ecologically based forest management planning Feb 9th as part of this course, and NCF preferred provider Jerry Becker will also be presenting and leading field sessions as well.  This workshop is an excellent opportunity for introduction into ecologically sound forest management.

Walker Creek Ecoforestry (WCE) manages 365 acres of mixed age, mixed species forest, comprising two thirds of the Walker Creek watershed, outside Coquille on the southern coast of Oregon. For over 10 years, they have served as an integrated prototype for ecological, social, and sustainable forest management based on resident stewardship. Ecoforestry, the restoration of forest health, guides practices. Their forest is certified as sustainably managed by the Forest Stewardship Council.  A conservation easement, held by Southern Oregon Land Conservancy, protects the land in perpetuity.

For more information and registration form visit http://www.mountainhomestead.org/Forestry.html or contact Chip Boggs and Ish Shalom at walkercreekecoforestry@gmail.com 541-396-4764.  Cost for the eco-forestry course is $400.  Those interested in attending only the Feb 9th presentation on management planning can contact Jake at 541 941 1822 or jake@nnrg.org.
