This affordable two day workshop is designed for forestry professionals, landowners, and students who wish to gain the knowledge and technical skills needed to conduct FSC assessments on small woodland properties in the Pacific Northwest. Participants will be trained in both the field and classroom on how to consistently assess forest management plans and properties against the new FSC U.S. National Standard. The training will emphasize FSC's protocols and policies for smaller forests, especially operations under 2500 acres.
The classroom session on Friday afternoon will provide participants with an in-depth look at the FSC certification standards for small woodland owners, FSC Chain-of-custody procedures, and current markets for FSC wood products. On Saturday morning, participants will head into the field to conduct a mock audit of the 1,000 acre Oakbasin Tree Farm owned by Jim and Karen Merzenich in Brownsville, OR.
During the seminar you will:
· Learn about the new FSC US National Standard from an experienced FSC Auditor
· Gain experience with on-the-ground field assessment techniques and audit procedures
· Get up-to-date information on the state of FSC wood markets
· Learn about FSC chain-of-custody policies and procedures
· Meet other forestry professionals who are working at various levels of the certified wood supply chain
