The City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) is compiling a list of interested suppliers of Large Woody Debris (LWD), logs with and without root wads, from sustainably harvested land base (FSC certified or similar) for stream and river restoration projects. LWD may originate from Oregon or Washington, must be disease free, have limited rot or decay (Utility Grade 95 minimum), and be clean of dirt and debris. One BES project that is scheduled for construction this summer (2011) has the following LWD needs:

BES may elect to procure LWD through several channels, which include (1) procurement by a contractor following project award for a specific construction project, and (2) procurement by BES in advance of project award for stockpiling purposes. Wood procured under (1) above would have a short lead time (1-3 months) and would need to be delivered in July for work during the in-water work window. LWD procured under (2) above would be executed to fill larger needs and would be completed in advance of advertising construction projects.

If you are interested in becoming part of the BES Supplier List, please submit your interest to Hannah Yourd, Director of Member Services at the Northwest Natural Resource Group (hannah@nnrg.org). Becoming part of the BES supplier list is a statement of interest to supply BES with LWD materials and does not constitute an agreement on the part of BES to purchase LWD or a guarantee of any kind on the part of BES to procure LWD materials from interested suppliers.
