NCF Welcomes Four New Preferred Providers

Borras Forestry Services of Ellensburg, Draftworks Horse Logging of Port Angeles, Westek Forestry of Olympia, and Rainshadow Consulting in San Juan County have all recently been approved as NCF Preferred Providers.

This summer we've added four new companies to our Preferred Provider network - two forestry consultancies and the first two logging contractors. New additions include:

  • Thembi Borras of Borras Forestry Services in Ellensburg - Thembi's roots run deep in the certification movement, having been in NNRG's 'orbit' since the mid 90s as a ecological forestry consultant and FSC advocate up and down the West Coast. Last year she settled in Ellensburg and is building up her Central Washington focused practice, while maintaining a presence in Northern California as well. See Thembi's blog (a great source of information) or contact her at (509) 925-2701 or by email.
  • Greg Lange of Draftworks Horse Logging in Port Angeles - Greg employs a 'worst first' form of harvest management to his clients, focusing on stand improvement, minimal impact using a wheeled arch system, and maximizing added value through manufacturing. He is also in the process of purchasing Miller Manufacturing, one of the most respected millwork shops on the Olympic Peninsula. Through this purchase he intends to offer horse logged, local, FSC certified finished products to Northwest buyers. Greg can be reached at (360) 461-1244 or by email.
  • John Zapel of Westek Forest in Olympia - Westek is a full service logging outfit that also specializes in environmental engineering and public works projects. They offer cut to length logging and specialize in thinning through both ground based and cable systems. Their environmental services division provides stream restoration, fish passage, wetland enhancement, and other sensitive construction expertise. Please see their website for contact details and more information.
  • Carson & Samantha Sprenger of Rain Shadow Consulting on Shaw Island - As San Juan County natives, Carson and Samantha have built their practice around restorative forest management in the islands. They offer both stewardship planning and management services, with a heavy emphasis in ecological restoration of younger forests, as well as rare grassland and shoreline habitats. They also partner closely with small manufacturers to maximize the use of island grown wood within the islands. Please see their website for contact details and more information.

what they're saying

“FSC offers us an opportunity to distinguish our products
in the marketplace and NCF group certification cut our
costs by more than half. NCF has also been the most
active organization we know of in identifying regional markets
for our products.”
