NCF welcomes new members in 2011

NNRG staff would like to extend a warm welcome to our new NCF members this year.

NNRG staff would like to extend a warm welcome to our new NCF members this year:

Big Bear Timber Company: 100 acres of dry mixed conifer (Doug Fir, Ponderosa Pine, Sugar Pine, Incense Cedar) in Jacksonville, OR. They recently became FSC certified and the owner is interested in a small commercial thin in the next couple of years.

trilliumGrover Family Forest
: new Associate Member with 40 acres near Shelton, WA.  Owner is friends with another NCF member and is primarily interested in improving the conservation values of the forest and doesn’t expect to harvest any timber in at least the near future.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church:
130 acres north of Belfair, WA.  blackbirdThis member came to us via Westek Forest Ltd, an NCF Preferred Provider that paid for their first year membership as a signing bonus for a logging contract.  Westek will be conducting a rehabilitation harvest to restore the growth and productivity to a highly overstocked and degraded stand.  Forest owner will likely also be enrolling in EQIP to develop a forest management and conduct additional restoration work on their property.

woodpeckerGreat Peninsula Conservancy: approximately 100 acres divided amongst multiple sites on the Kitsap Peninsula.  The land trust is primarily interested in conserving existing older forest structure on most properties.  However, they do have a variety of restoration opportunities on a few sites that will result in timber harvesting.

Green Family Forest: 3.5 acres on Waldron Island.  The first “taker” for our scholarship fund on Waldron.  The forest owner is also a small-scale logging contractor and has a small mill and is interested in providing thinning services and getting into FSC lumber production for both on and off-island sales.

old growthMark Family Forest: 15 acres in the McKenna Reserve near Roy, WA. Property contains 35 year old Doug Fir. Landowner is primarily interested in learning about different options for enhancing forest growth and may do some light thinning within the next year.
